A Community Remembrance of Kristallnacht

November 6, 2013

Submitted by Meredith McCulloch

TKristallnacht_wikipediahe annual memorial observance of Kristallnacht will be held in front of First Parish Church on the Common on Saturday, November 9, at 7:00 PM. The memorial marks the anniversary of “the Night of the Broken Glass,” when a pogrom against Jews resulted in the destruction of 1,000 synagogues, the death of 91 men and women, and the arrest of 30,000 Jews, who were incarcerated in concentration camps.

That night marked the beginning of wholesale attacks on Jews and Jewish businesses and institutions that swept through Germany, Austria and beyond, ending in the mass murder of six million Jews.

The event is sponsored by the Bedford Jewish Community and will be led by Reverend Megan Lynes, Parish Minister at First Parish Church. Participants will be invited to light a memorial candle and to remember those who perished.
