Special from State Representative Ken Gordon, (D) Bedford
With a trip to the Division 4 Super Bowl on the line, State Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) is taking on Representatives Cleon Turner (D-Dennis) and Brian Mannal (D-Barnstable) in his third friendly wager on the outcome of Saturday’s state semifinal football game between Bedford and Dennis-Yarmouth at Brockton. On the line will be a donation of Thanksgiving pies and one box of books to the food pantry of the wining community. Because two legislators cover the Dennis-Yarmouth area, they will also throw in healthy portion of Cape Cod cranberry sauce if Bedford wins. The flag of the winning town(s) will hang on the wall of the community of the unsuccessful rep when the House is next in session.
Rep. Gordon’s friendly wagers have thus far earned donations to the Bedford Food Pantry from Minority Leader Brad Jones (R-North Reading) and Lenny Mirra (R-West Newbury). He now turns to members of his own party for the challenge.
“I am sure Dennis-Yarmouth’s strong offense will present a challenge to the streaking Bucs, but I am quite confident that Bedford’s balanced approach will prevail, and people relying on the Bedford Food Pantry will have a nice dessert after their Thanksgiving meal,” said Rep. Gordon. “And once the players learn cranberry sauce is on the line, I’m sure Bedford will be prepared to play all four quarters with relish.”
Replied Rep. Turner, “I have the utmost confidence that D-Y will prevail in its quest for another state title. I’m also surprised that folks from Bedford have been Cape Cod cranberry sauce deprived. So, while Bedford won’t be moving on in the playoffs, I will still Cape Cod cranberry sauce to the Bedford Food Pantry, win or lose.”
Fellow freshman Rep. Mannal was not so circumspect. “I’m looking to D-Y’s football team making a meal of Bedford in the Division 4 state semifinals, and seeing Rep. Gordon donate food to the local food pantry in the process.
