BEF-Bash-2013Submitted by the Bedford Education Foundation

Have you seen the blue and white signs dotting lawns around town promoting the BEF Bash on December 7th at Waxy’s?  Have you said to yourself, “This must be the place to be, but what is this bash? What is the BEF? And how do I get tickets?” Here is the lowdown.

The Bash

In case you missed the first three, this is the 4th Annual BEF Winter Bash, and the venue is upstairs at Waxy O’Connor’s Pub in Lexington. Along with enjoying festive food and drinks and mixing with friends and neighbors from Bedford, come ready to bid on hot auction items.

  • Want to see Rondo and Humphries live at the Garden?Bid on some Celtics tickets.
  • Heading to Disney in the next couple of years? Bid on a four-pack of Disney passes.
  • Been dragging your feet on getting your will drafted? Bid on an estate plan.
  • Tired of hauling your clunky vacuum cleaner around your house? Bid on an iRobot Roomba.

Besides these, numerous gift certificates and vouchers, generously donated by local restaurants, hotels, salons and businesses, will be up for grabs. It’s the perfect way to get some items checked off your Christmas list while benefiting your children’s schools.  All fundraising efforts directly benefit Bedford students, and we’re looking to surpass last year’s $12,000 benchmark.

The BEF

The Bedford Education Foundation provides funding for projects and materials to enhance students’ learning experiences in all four Bedford schools. The BEF solicits grant proposals directly from teachers by inviting them to envision innovative projects: What do you dream of bringing to your classroom? What do you wish you could do to inspire students? What do you imagine could happen if only…?

Since its inception in the fall of 2008, the BEF has awarded over $100,000 in supplemental educational grants to teachers to help make their “dream projects” a reality.  BEF has enabled classrooms to pilot state-of-the-art technology such as Smart boards, iPads, digital microscopes, Color Nooks, Senteo responders, a green screen for the BHS tv studio, among others. The BEF has also funded hands-on projects and curriculum materials such as LEGO Robotics sets, vegetable gardens, science kits, Project Adventure and physical education equipment, and experiential learning opportunities.

Tickets

Tickets to the Winter Bash are $25 each and may be purchased at Chip-In Farm or online through the Recreation Department at https://bedrecregister.org/registrationmain.sdi  (select “Special Events”).

If you would like to support the BEF by donating auction items or services to this year’s event, please contact Meg McAllister at [email protected] by December 1. This is an excellent opportunity to promote your business and support Bedford schools.

Heed the signs and go! We can’t wait to see you at the BEF Winter Bash on Saturday, December 7th at 7:00pm.
