On the Horizon: Bedford Events – November 19 to November 24

Coming-EventsEvents in the coming week include an open house for new students at St. Paul’s Weekday Nursery School; a demonstration of Golden art supplies at Bedford Center for the Arts; St. Michael’s annual craft fair; New England Nurseries’ Holiday Happenings; and Bedford’s community Thanksgiving service on Sunday afternoon.

Tuesday, November 19

Open House for St. Paul’s Weekday Nursery School
Classes at St. Paul’s Weekday Nursery School are now filling for next year.  Parents and children are invited to meet the staff, tour the school, enjoy some preschool activities, and learn about the range of programs offered at an open house from 6:30 to 7:30pm on Tuesday, November 19.

About St. Paul’s: St Paul’s Weekday Nursery School is a secular preschool now in its fifty-first year of providing care to young children. Programs are available for children age 2.9 through 5 years of age.

  • A two day/week program is available for the youngest children.
  • A three day/week program is available for children ages three and four.
  • A five day program is available for prekindergarten children.
  • School hours run from 9:00AM until 12:00PM.

In addition the school will be offering an optional lunch program until 1:00PMand an optional extended day program until 3:00PM.

Wednesday, November 20

Demonstration of Golden Art Supplies – WILL BE RESCHEDULED
Adria Arch, a representative of Golden Art Supplies, will speak on from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, November 20. She will talk about

  • acrylic basics, including how mineral and modern pigments relate to clean color mixing, glazing and the creation of new colors;
  • the unique properties of Fluids, Heavy Body, and slower drying OPEN acrylics;
  • the unusual effects achieved by using Interference and Iridescent Paints;
  • the use of gels and mediums to change texture, saturation and intensity; and
  • using new grounds for preparing contemporary surfaces for painting, drawing, pastel and mixed media.

Saturday, November 23

St. Michael Craft Fair
The annual St. Michael Holiday Craft Fair will be held at the St. Michael Parish Center, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford from 9 am until 2 pm on Saturday, November 23. This popular event features holiday and gift items, local crafters and artisans, a white elephant sale, and a bake sale, including homemade apple pies in time for Thanksgiving. Plus, a huge raffle of gift baskets, blankets, jewelry, gift cards, and other donated items. Delicious, low-cost luncheon items served as well. There is no admission fee. Holiday Happenings at New England Nurseries
New England Nurseries in Bedford presents its annual Holiday Happenings on Saturday, November 23from noon until 2 pm, offering guests the opportunity to sample the best from local restaurants and chat with the Executive Chef or owner of each outstanding business.  Greet your neighbors while enjoying uniquely decorated trees, or try your hand at making a fresh boxwood tree. The Music Makers School of Acton will again set the mood for a beautiful start to the holiday season.

Participating restaurants that will offer samples for visitors include Sora at Bedford’s Doubletree Hotel; Flatbread; Prince Street Bakery; Ginger; Chipotle Mexican Grill; Lester’s Roadside Barbeque; and Whole Foods.

Whiskers of Hope, an all-volunteer non-profit, NO-KILL feline rescue organization, will also be at Holiday Happenings. If you can provide a loving forever home for a furry friend, the great folks from Whiskers of Hope would love to introduce some kitties. Sunday, November 24

A Celebration of Gratitude: an Interfaith Service of Thanksgiving for Bedford
The community is warmly invited to Bedford’s annual Interfaith Service of Thanksgiving, at 3 pm on Sunday, November 24. This year’s service will take place at First Parish on the Common, and doors will open at 2:30 pm, with handicapped access through the Elm Street entrance.

Bedford’s ministers will be there, and First Parish Music Director Brad Conner has coordinated musical ensembles from many houses of worship in Bedford (and guests from neighboring towns as well.)

Brief readings, prayers and reflections from many faith traditions will be offered by members of the clergy and lay leaders. The Bedford Minutemen are likely to add to the festivities. A freewill offering will be collected to benefit the Bedford Food Pantry, and a brief reception will follow the service.
