Selectmen Authorized to Accept Trail Easements

November 8, 2013

By Meredith McCulloch

At Special Town Meeting voters approved an amendment to the Consent article from last spring’s town meeting to explicitly authorize the Selectmen to accept easements for trails.  The original article allows the Selectmen “to accept any and all easements for sidewalks, drainage and any other utility purposes during the fiscal year 2014.”

This change provides for acceptance by the Town of easements that would interconnect existing sidewalks and trails.  The Land Acquisitions committee has identified 44 desirable segments and prioritized them. The list was a cooperative effort of the Bicycle Advisory Committee, the Trails Committee and Land Acquisitions Committee.
