The Bedford Free Public Library will present Jessica Bethoney, Professor of American Culture and Cross-Cultural Studies at Bunker Hill Community College, speaking about Parenting in America: A Cross-Cultural View from 7 to 9 pm on Monday, February 24.

Parents raising children in a culture whose values often contrast with their own are often faced with questions:

  • Why do American kids have so much freedom, both in school and out?
  • Why don’t they give adults the proper respect?
  • Why do they want to play sports instead of studying?

Professor Bethoney’s 90-minute workshop will offer an overview of the central values that have shaped key American institutions such as the family and education. The goal is a better understanding of why children growing up in America may be caught between two worlds, and how to meet these challenges.

The Bedford Free Public Library is located on Mudge Way in Bedford. The building is fully acessible; if you have questions, please telephone 781-275-9440.
