Editor’s Note: The following is an open letter from Principal Henry Turner to the Bedford High School Community about an incident that took place on Friday, March 21, 2014.
I am sad to report that a swastika was found outside of a classroom [on Friday] afternoon. The image was drawn in pencil and was immediately removed by school resource officer, Jeff Wardwell, after a teacher reported it to the principal’s office. The drawing today came immediately after our public condemnation of anti-Semitic activity within the Bedford Public Schools, which is similar to the pattern of anti-Semitic graffiti in the fall of 2013 at the high school. We believe that the recent swastika drawing is coming from the same source as the fall anti-Semitic graffiti and the police are continuing to investigate those criminal acts.
I will be asking teachers and administrators to keep a vigilant eye out in the hallways. I will provide you with additional information if and when I receive it. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Henry J. Turner, EdD
Principal, Bedford High School
