Sharon McDonald will present Job Lane at the Bedford Historical Society’s lecture meeting on March 26

Prominent former Billerica and Bedford resident Job Lane, who built the North Rd. house that is now owned by the Town and open to the public during warmer weather, will be the subject of the Bedford Historical Society’s March 26 program with Bedford resident and author Sharon McDonald as guest speaker.

The program, entitled “Introducing Our Neighbor, Job Lane,” will begin with refreshments at 7:15 pm in Fellowship Hall of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 25 The Great Rd.  McDonald’s presentation will start around 7:45 pm.  The public is invited to this free Society event.

McDonald, who serves as Curator of the Job Lane Farm Museum, is also President of the Friends of the Job Lane House.  As a result, she knows Job Lane and his extended family well.  Describing her talk as “half good storytelling and half plentiful footnotes,” McDonald is certain to entertain with stories of Job Lane’s many activities and the daily life of his family and relatives, first when his farm was part of Billerica in the Mass Bay Colony, and later when it became part of the newly-incorporated Town of Bedford on Sept. 23, 1729.

McDonald is best known for serving as the Children’s Librarian at the Bedford Free Public Library for 40 years.  During her long association with the library, which houses the historic Bedford Flag, she was inspired to research and write her first book, “The Bedford Flag Unfurled,” published in 2000.  McDonald is currently working on a history of Bedford’s First Parish Church.

McDonald also serves on the Board of Directors of the Bedford Historical Society and as a member of the Town’s Historic Preservation Commission.
