Submitted by John Guilfoil on behalf of the Bedford Police and Fire Departments

Public-Safety-Bedford Police and Fire officials are at the scene of a plane crash in a wooded area in the Town of Bedford, in the vicinity of Hanscom Air Force Base.

The crash was reported at approximately 9:42 p.m. Saturday. There is no word on casualties at this time.

A Hazardous Materials team is also on scene.

At this time, there are few details available, and this is a developing situation. Bedford Police and Fire will release more details as they become available.

Fire units from Burlington are currently covering Bedford’s fire station.

Editor’s note: Bedford resident Amy Lloyd reported that many of her neighbors on Fayette Road were drawn out of their houses after the sound of  “two or three deep booms that you could feel as well as hear” shortly before 10 pm. “I saw a huge, mushroom-like ball of smoke above the trees, with flames and sparks coming from it,” she noted.
