Bedford Student Advances to the SkillsUSA Nationals

Shawsheen Valley Technical High School will send eight students to the SkillsUSA national finals in Kansas City in June.

Bedford junior Jeannette Lavine earned her gold medal in the medical math competition will travel to the national competition. Another Bedford student, T.J. Barriss, earned a silver medal for his plumbing skills.

Of the 80 Shawsheen competitors, 77 of them finished in the top 10 for their respective categories; the students earned 29 medals in all: 8 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze.

“I was very impressed with the way the students did,” said Heidi Lloyd, Shawsheen’s advisor for SkillsUSA. “It was unbelievable. These are 15, 16 and 17-year-old students,” Lloyd continued. “That’s pretty substantial when you think about it
