Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs start on September 1 and are due October 15.

The Bedford Cultural Council has set an October 15 postmark deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.

According to Council spokesperson Barbara Purchia, these grants can support a variety of artistic and cultural projects and activities in Bedford; including workshops, lectures, exhibits, festivals, field trips, and short-term artist residencies or performances in schools.

The Bedford Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.

Last year, the Bedford Cultural Council distributed over $5,000 in grants to 17 recipients. Some of the 2014 grant recipients include:

  • the Bedford 4-H Club for Sheep to Shawl
  • the Bedford Arts and Crafts Society for Painting Demonstration
  • the Bedford Center for the Arts for Bedford as a Creative Community: STEM to STEAM
  • Boy Scout Troop 194 for a Revolutionary War Guided Trolley Tour
  • Friends of Bedford Depot Park for a Railroad Baggage Cart Restoration
  • the Girls Scouts of Eastern MA. Bedford Hanscom Service Unit
  • Bedford Girl Scouts for an Oral History & Video Project
  • the Jenks Nature Trail Working Group Signage for Jenks Nature Trail: Tree Labels.

The full list of grant recipients is at https://www.mass-culture.org/Bedford.

The application process is easy. Application forms, funding priorities, local guidelines, and more information about the Bedford Cultural Council are available online at https://www.mass-culture.org/Bedford.
