Reconstruction Project: Old Burying Ground Stone Wall

OBGW-Collage600Submitted by Town Engineer Adrienne St. John

The stone wall along the southern edge of Bedford’s Old Burying Ground has recently been renovated. Gerry Santorelli of GS Stone Work has removed the old wall, installed a crushed stone foundation and rebuilt the wall, installing a “dry wall” with no visible mortar.

As an additional benefit, a sizeable clump of Japanese knotweed, an invasive plant, was removed during the renovation.

The adjacent homeowner, Richard Callahan, has been very accommodating thru this project by allowing the contractor to work from his driveway to avoid damage from heavy equipment in the cemetery.
