Have you seen the blue and white signs dotting lawns around town promoting the BEF Bash on December 6th at Waxy’s? Have you said to yourself, “This must be the place to be, but what is this bash? What is the BEF? And how do I get tickets?” Here is the lowdown.
What is the Bash?
In case you missed the first four Bash events, this is the 5th Annual BEF Winter Bash, and the venue is upstairs at Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub in Lexington on Saturday, December 6th from 7:00 – 11:00 pm. Along with enjoying festive finger food and drinks and mixing with friends and neighbors from Bedford, come ready to bid on hot auction items.

Want to watch Brady and Gronk on their way to another Super Bowl run? Bid on a pair of Patriots tickets to any regular season game of your choice! Feel like rewarding your kids with a fun-filled weekend away? Bid on a two-night stay at Fitchburg’s new indoor water park resort, Great Wolf Lodge! Has the weather in Buffalo got you worried about this winter? Bid on a full season’s worth of snowplowing and shoveling! We’re also bringing back a hit from last year–the iPad mini raffle!
We can’t imagine you’d need more reasons than that, but in case you do, we have more than 80 other items in our auction and raffle, generously donated by local restaurants, hotels, salons, businesses, and community members. It’s the perfect way to get some items checked off your holiday gift list while benefitting Bedford’s public schools. All fundraising efforts directly benefit Bedford students, and we’re hoping with your participation to surpass last year’s $13,000 benchmark.
The Bedford Education Foundation provides funding for projects and materials to enhance students’ learning experiences in all four Bedford schools. The BEF solicits grant proposals directly from teachers by inviting them to envision innovative projects: What do you dream of bringing to your classroom? What do you wish you could do to inspire students? What do you imagine could happen if only…?
Since its inception in the fall of 2008, the BEF has awarded almost $140,000 in supplemental educational grants to teachers to help make their “dream projects” a reality. The BEF has enabled classrooms to pilot state-of-the-art technology such as a 3D printer, Smart boards, iPads, digital microscopes, Senteo responders, and a green screen for the BHS TV studio, among others.
The BEF has also funded hands-on projects and curriculum materials such as LEGO Robotics sets, vegetable gardens, science kits, Project Adventure and physical education equipment, and experiential learning opportunities. The BEF has also recently funded alternative seating pilots at Lane and Davis in the form of hokki stools, stability ball seating, and standing desks with stools.
Tickets to the Winter Bash are $25 when purchased online through the Recreation Department at Buy tickets online at bedfordma.gov/recreation from now through Thursday, December 4. Select “Register Online” and type “BEF Bash” in the search box. Tickets will be $30 at the door.
