DPW Chief Roy Sorenson reports that a total of 46 inches of snow have fallen on Bedford in the past 10 days, including another 11 inches so far today, and it’s still snowing at 6 pm.

“It’s been an exhausting 10 days, said Sorenson. “The guys have been working around the clock … and they have also been working with heavy hearts as we lost Carl Silvestrone who was the Sewer Department Foreman – he passed away on Tuesday the 27th from pancreatic cancer during the blizzard while the guys were working.”

Plowing will continue through the night, and into Tuesday morning. Sorenson added that the work  will continue through this week, even as the snow continues to deepen. DPW  crews will push back snow banks, clear sidewalks, and widen narrowed roads.

Monday’s trash collection was delayed to Tuesday, and Sorenson asks that residents wait until Tuesday morning to put their barrels on the curb, once the plowing is completed.

Public Safety: Police Department

Bedford’s Police Chief Robert Bongiorno notes, “Again we are being pounded with a significant winter storm. [The Department is] dealing with the typical winter storm related calls spin outs minor motor vehicle crashes but no significant incidents. He suggests, “If you do not have to travel please do not operate on the roadways. Stay home and revel in the Patriots Super Bowl win!”
