Boy Scout Eagle Project Needs Your Help

Submitted by Eagle Scout candidate Quin Houck

Imagine having to brush your teeth with a really old toothbrush and water because you can’t afford a new toothbrush and toothpaste. Imagine keeping your baby in a dirty diaper longer than you should because you are trying to conserve the few diapers you have. For many of us, this isn’t a problem. But for many families, it is.

Quin Houck, a Boy Scout in Troop 194 in Bedford, is working on his Eagle project to earn his Eagle rank, the highest advancement in scouting. In association with the Bedford Housing Task Force and the Bedford Food Pantry, his plan is to gather specific toiletries and diapers that many Bedford families need. But he needs your help.

How to Help

He is hoping that as many Bedford residents as possible will go to his website, www.HelpBedfordFamilies.com, and sign up to donate 1 or 2 or 10 or 20 of the items that are listed for the families. Families can sign up to donate items until March 26th as the collection day will be on March 28th. A group of volunteers will come around to collect the items from each family that donates. The goal is to try to fill every item that was requested by the families, so please pass the word along to everyone you know about this website and project!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Quin at [email protected].

Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. In 2013, 56,841 Scouts, around 7 percent of all Boy Scouts, earned the Eagle Scout rank. The average age of boys earning the Eagle Scout rank is 17 years of age. From 1912 to 2013, 2.3 million Boy Scouts have earned the Eagle Scout rank.
