120 Great Road Restaurant Development is On Hold

By Joan Bowen

ZBAAt its meeting on March 26, The Zoning Board of Appeals held a continuation of the hearing on a special permit request to construct a restaurant at 120 Great Road.  Pam Brown asked that the request be withdrawn without prejudice.  She told the ZBA that after discussions with the Planning Board and members of the Historic District Commission, some design changes are under consideration that will provide a smaller building footprint and a larger setback.

Building a restaurant at 120 Great Road continues to be the plan.  Beyond changes in the building plans, there are additional issues with respect to providing parking.  According to the Planning Board minutes of  March 3, Town Counsel identified issues with the original plan including “parking for a business being located within the residential district.”

Attorney Brown requested that original request be “withdrawn without prejudice” so the owners are able to refile for a special permit when plans are developed to meet concerns articulated by the Planning Board, Historic District Commission and Town Counsel.
