Championship Week For Babe Ruth Baseball

June 18, 2015

Baseball, jpgThere are two nights left in spring baseball for Bedford Babe Ruth, and trophies will be on the line at Page Field beginning this evening.

In the American League, the Orioles jumped all over the A’s on Wednesday, winning 14-2 in four innings and forcing a winner-take-all match-up Thursday at 5:45. This will be the sixth meeting of the season between the two rivals, with the A’s holding a 3-1-1 advantage thus far, but the Orioles served notice last night that the regular season games are a distant memory. The 19th, and final, game of the American League season, should be a good one, so grab your seat early.

In the National League, the Cubs beat the Nationals last night, 14-7, to set up a date in Friday evening’s championship against the Mets. The Mets have breezed through the playoffs so far with a 3-0 record, while the Cubs have won four straight elimination games following their opening round 1-0 loss to the Diamondbacks. Much to everyone’s surprise, the Nationals, who entered the playoffs a perfect 12-0, were knocked out of the playoffs on Tuesday and Wednesday. If the Mets win the 5:30 game on Friday, they will be crowned the champions, but if the Cubs win, the two teams will play again immediately afterwards to determine the winner.

For all of the players, it will be a quick transition into summer baseball, as the Cal Ripken District tournaments open on Friday for the 11- and 12-year olds, and Saturday for the 9- and 10-year-olds, and  Baystate Baseball round one play getting started on June 27.
