Bedford Police Department to Conduct Alcohol Compliance Checks

June 29, 2015

Submitted by John Guilfoil on behalf of the Bedford Police Department

Public Safety-BPDChief Robert Bongiorno and the Bedford Police Department announce there will be impending alcohol compliance checks of local establishments in the upcoming summer and fall months.

“Alcohol consumption by young people has a profound effect on every community and is linked to a number of behaviors that have an adverse impact on the quality of life in Bedford,” Chief Bongiorno said. “While a single approach will not completely solve the problem, we hope this approach will create a safer environment for our community and of course are thankful for the continued support from our residents.”

Alcohol compliance checks are vital to ensuring that businesses obey the laws pertaining to the sale of alcohol, especially in cases of underage drinking. Alcohol use by minors is linked to increased motor vehicle crashes, crime, and poor performance in school. It is imperative that establishments licensed to sell liquor continue to abide by the laws and regulations of their license in order to keep Bedford safe.

The Bedford Police Department intends to conduct such compliance checks over the next few months, and will periodically conduct these operations in the future to ensure the safety of youth in the community and that licensed local establishments are in compliance with the law.

Officers trained in the procedures used to conduct lawful alcohol compliance checks of establishments licensed to serve alcohol will be conducting these operations.

The Bedford Police Department wishes to thank the community for their continued support and for all the efforts of citizens to help ensure the safety of Bedford children during the upcoming summer season.
