If you were caught in traffic along The Great Road just after Thursday’s normal rush hour, you likely saw streams of pedestrians – individuals, couples and families alike – making their way to the 65th annual Strawberry Festival at First Church of Christ, Congregational on The Great Road.

The crowd arrived beginning at 6 pm, hungry for homemade biscuits topped with hand-chopped strawberries and served with either real whipped cream. Decadent Bedford Farms vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce was also on offer.

According to event chair Karen Gutersloh, a crew of more than 50 volunteers prepped 136 pounds of strawberries to serve more than 400 people. Pastor John Castricum was delighted with the weather and the turnout, “It couldn’t be better,” he said.
