John Linz, a member of the Bedford Historic Preservation Commission, has pulled together a fact sheet describing tax incentives can aid some owners in maintaining their historic buildings. In most cases historic properties must be listed in the Register of Historic Places to be eligible.
At the Town level the incentive allows the owner to phase in the increase in property value from rehabilitation over five years.
At the state and federal level tax credits are available for substantial rehabilitation of properties that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
