June 25 marked opening day of the summer’s swim competition season for the Wedgewood Swim Team as they conducted their time trials for the team of 98 swimmers. Led by Alex, Tatiana and Svetlana Snegour for the second year, the coaches have been working with the swimmers in practice since mid-June. Wedgwood swimmers start as young at 4 and continue up to age 17. The philosophy of the team is to teach discipline, team work, method, technique and most of all have fun!
This year Wedgwood has one senior swimmer, Avery Kaplan who will be entering her senior year at Bedford High School this fall. Kaplan has been swimming at Wedgewood since she was 5 and hasn’t stopped since. She also swims for Bedford High School, teaches lessons, life guards and coaches the Wedgewood team.
Several other Wedgewood swimmers will give the competition a run for their money. Wedgwood is one of the smaller squads in the league in which they compete but don’t judge this team based on its size, rather keep a close eye on the up and coming (or accomplished) powerful swimmers.
Wedgewood is a private club for Bedford only residents that invites people to join on a wait list for entrance. If you would like to join Wedgewood visit their website www.thewedgewoodclub.org
