Through its Soup-er Bowl collection each January Lane School has supplied shelf-stable packaged foods to Bedford’s Food Pantry, this week, however the school delivered fresh produce, grown in the school’s own gardens.

Lane School Teaching Asst. Jean Mickle, along with several students harvested and cleaned dozens of French Breakfast radishes for delivery to the Bedford Food Pantry on Thursday. As other crops come in, they’ll make additional deliveries to bring fresh foods to the Pantry.

In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Mickle is also the adult leader of the Lane School Green Team, and according to Assistant Principal Keith Kinney is the “unsung hero[ine] of the garden.”
