As we hit the home stretch of July, Bedford’s three Baystate baseball teams are in the midst of their grueling summer schedules and are all playing meaningful games as the championship tournaments loom on the not-too-distant horizons.

Baystate D (9-year olds)

The littlest Bucs in the Baystate tournament this year, the D team, are 8 games into their 10-game schedule, and have jumped out to a 5-3 record after last night’s 13-3 win in Sudbury. The D team controls their fate as the end of the regular season in next Monday- if they win their last two games they are guaranteed a spot in the 8-team championship tournament. Come cheer on the D team on Friday night at 5:45 as they have a home game at Page Field against Chelmsford.

Baystate C (9- and 10-year olds)

The C team got off to a hot start in first round play, opening up with a 4-2 record and making the opening round trophy weekend last Saturday. Facing a 5-1 Billerica team last Saturday in Marblehead, the Bucs came up short, but did win a well-deserved seven-day break before the opening of Round 2 this weekend. The C team opens second round play Saturday night at 6:00 at Long Field in Framingham, where they will face 5-3 Andover Blue. The C team is currently sitting in 14th place in the 33-team C division, and will be looking for a top-8 finish after the second round to qualify for the August Tournament of Champions (TOC). The C team next plays at home on Monday at 5:45 at I Field (JGMS) against Stoneham.

Baystate A (11- and 12-year olds)

After a first round that pitted them against some of the heavy hitters in Eastern Massachusetts, the second round of play has been much kinder to the oldest kids playing on the small diamond this summer. The Bucs have gone 3-2 so far in Round 2, including back-to-back wins on Monday in Winchester (13-2) and Tuesday in Reading (4-2). The A team has already qualified for this weekend’s trophy weekend in Marblehead, and plays tonight at 5:45 at Page Field against Waltham. The A team is in 18th place out of the 28teams in A division, and, like the C team, will be aiming for a place in the top 8 to qualify for the TOC next month.
