The Date is Set for Bedford’s Fall Recycling Event: Saturday, October 3

Submitted by Bedford’s Department of Public Works

recycleThe Bedford Department of Public Works will host its annual fall recycling event on Saturday, October 3rd from 9 a.m. to noon at the DPW facility at 314 Great Road.

Building off the success of the spring event, there will be up to eight collection stations giving residents the opportunity to recycle materials that aren’t accepted in the curbside recycling program.

According to Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator, the DPW will be collecting electronic waste, Styrofoam, scrap metal, fluorescent lamps, mercury containing items, lead acid batteries and rechargeable batteries.

Additional collection stations

  • “We will also have a container to collect construction waste from residents,” McGrath said. “Wood waste and other construction material is banned by the state from the curbside refuse so we’re providing an option to properly dispose of these items and free up some space in your garage or basement.”
  • Doc Shredding will be on site that day to collect a maximum of five file boxes from each car on site. The paper will be shredded with energy created from solar power at Doc Shredding’s facility. A certificate of destruction will be available upon request.
  • In an effort to promote reuse, Recycle That will be at the DPW that day to collect clothing and fashion accessories, books, CDs, DVDs, small household goods, toys and stuffed animals.

“I’m hoping to add a couple of more collections” McGrath said. “I’m waiting on confirmation from a couple of vendors.

“We had 246 cars come through at collection event on May 30,” McGrath added. “More than six tons of materials were recycled. I’m hoping for similar success October 3rd.”

A complete list of what residents can bring that day will be available on the DPW’s website and at the DPW table at Bedford Day.
