The second annual Lexington vs Bedford Softball Match took place on Saturday, August 22 with teams from each town that included residents, local business people, as well as members of the Bedford Rotary and local chapters of Business Network International (BNI) from each town. The entry fee was a donation to either the Lexington or Bedford food pantry.
Taking this year’s honors, Team Bedford brought the trophy home. Amanda Aiken of SERVPRO of Lexington and Bedford captained Team Bedford, leading the team to to a 16-1 victory.
Team Lexington may have been the defending champs, but Team Bedford arrived with the big bats and brought their heat to an already sweltering day.
Bedford scored 5 runs in the first inning alone, setting the stage for their eventual win. Team Lexington finally scored a run in the 7th and final inning, during which Team Bedford scored 7 runs. The game ended on a high note when Team Lexington scored their single run in the final inning, thanks to excellent third base coaching and James Harrington’s bat.
The game’s real winners were the Lexington and Bedford food pantries, recipients of a large quantity of donations.
And the 2016 challenge has been issued: Team Bedford has been notified that Team Lexington will be ready to reclaim their title and bragging rights next spring.
