The Bedford Free Public Library is once again “moving out” into the community, with the recent appointment of Maribeth Millar as Programming & Outreach Librarian.  In her new role, Millar will coordinate all adult programming, which formerly has been a divided responsibility, and will take on a new function by actively seeking input from the community on the kinds of programs the Library should offer.

Outreach is an increasingly vital part of libraries across the country.  Millar invites Bedford residents to submit ideas for programming. She can be reached by email: [email protected] or by a phone call to the Library, 781-275-9440.

In speaking with the Citizen recently, Millar said she is excited to have this new opportunity to make our already vibrant Library an even more useful community asset.  Although it’s premature to announce new programs, Millar gave us a teaser:  “Look for some interesting announcements at the Library booth on Bedford Day, September 19!”

Millar has been on the reference staff of the Library for 12 years; prior to that she worked in a Morgan Stanley corporate library and at the Harvard Business School Library.  She has an undergraduate degree in English from Boston College and a degree in Library and information Science from Simmons College.

An avid traveler and reader, Millar has contacts with critically acclaimed authors, including the popular Jami Attenberg, author of The Middlesteins and Saint Mazie, and J. Courtney Sullivan, author of Commencement, Maine, whom she met recently in New York at a book reading session.  She assures us that well-established adult programs such as Professor Daniel Breen’s history series and the ever- popular cooking programs will continue. Millar says she anticipates working closely with the Friends of the Library, which provides financial support for many Library events.
