There are at least two initiatives where ordinary purchases made by residents and school families can be easily leveraged to raise funds for Bedford Schools. Both Box Tops for Education and Stop & Shop’s A1 program require little effort, but return significant rewards.

BoxtopsHundreds of products and services are marked with the Box Tops for Education logo; clipping, saving and contributing them to Bedford’s Box Tops for Education program results in a significant contribution to our schools each year. The program also offers incentives to participating classrooms on a quarterly basis as well as by total participation at year’s end. Bedford schools earn a dollar for every 10 box tops turned in for redemption.

Jennifer Puhle, Box Tops coordinator at the John Glenn Middle School, reminds Bedford that  Friday is the first quarterly kick-off competition deadline for all of our schools, and that community members are invited to participate in the program through drop-off locations at Town Hall, the Council on Aging and in the Bedford Family Connection’s playroom at First Parish.

“Thank you to all students, parents, and Bedford community members who handed in Box Tops for Education during the 2014-2015 school year,” wrote Puhle. “Together, over $1400 was raised to support the Middle School Parent Association at John Glenn Middle School.  Moneys raised support the Homework Club and scholarships for the Washington DC field trip, among other programs.”

According to Puhle, “JGMS students and families should place all of their trimmed, non-expired Box Tops and Labels for Education in an envelope or baggie with their child’s name written on the baggie/envelope and hand it in BY FRIDAY to their advisory teacher’s plastic Box Tops collection jar.  Students will come by on Friday during advisory to collect the baggies.  The top 3 earners will receive prizes and a gift card.  Faculty and staff can hand theirs in as well either in their own advisory jar or in Barbara Ferri’s mailbox with their name clearly written.  Box Tops do expire, so be sure to hand in all of your Box Tops right away before the expiration date passes.”

Box Tops are due at Bedford High School by Friday as well, and students should follow the same procedure, adding their name and e mail address on their baggie but delivering them to the plastic collection box on the secretary’s desk in the Main Office.  Gift cards will be awarded to the top 3 earners at BHS as well.

Bedford Elementary Schools Together (B.E.S.T.) manages the Box Tops program at Davis and Lane elementary schools.

“We thank you for supporting Bedford Schools through the Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education programs,” said Puhle. If you have questions, please email [email protected].
