BesitoSome restaurants make us proud.  They are the kind that when out of town guests are expected, we know we have a place to take them for a real treat.  Such is with Besito a new up-scale gourmet Mexican restaurant in the Burlington Mall.

I was recently in a series of meetings at Hanscom AFB, when my colleagues asked where we could go for lunch on their way back to the North Shore.  When they asked if we have a good Mexican restaurant, I could reply with confidence. I knew there would be smiles of satisfaction.

The space has been very well designed.  The décor is upscale, spacious and creative.  It’s not too dark, with plenty of room to get around.

We began with the guacamole, served freshly made at our table.  Ripe avocado, garlic, onion and accompanying ingredients were folded together for just the right texture and flavor.  We dug next into the taco entrees, while two of my companions went for a salad. The tacos came with warm tortillas, just the right texture.  I ordered the fish taco, which came with a sauce that was sweet while at the same time spicy, with accompanying lettuce and cabbage slaw.  Another of my companions went for the shrimp tacos with pico de gallo, and was just as impressed with its tangy, fresh presentation. The Mexican chopped salad was a winner as a refreshing lunch on a warm day.

The only drawback was how to explain to my wife how I enjoyed this wonderful new restaurant, while she was still at work at Bedford High School.  I did so the best way I knew how, by returning with her the next week for dinner.

And the larger dinner menu didn’t disappoint.  I promised her the guacamole, and it was consistent with the first preparation.

The star of the dinner menu, if you ask me, is the Camarones Ajillo, a dish with shrimp and mushrooms combined to bring out the best in all the ingredients. My colleagues ordered the Enchiladas Carnitas, a pork Enchilada, and the Budin de Mariscos, the tortilla pie with shrimp and lump crab. It was an unusual combination of flavors, but a winner. I could spend several paragraphs describing the intense flavors and the truly unique experience of dining here at Besito.  But legislative duty calls. So I’ll leave it to all of you to follow my advice and adventure out to this great restaurant.

We will be back.  Besito is a welcome addition to a growing number of restaurants in the Burlington and Bedford area.
