Selectmen Take Positions on Special Town Meeting Zoning and Budget Articles

By Joan Bowen

SelectmenDuring their meeting on October 19, the Selectmen discussed their recommendations for four of the five November 2 Special Town Meeting (STM) warrant articles that they previously held for future consideration pending information from the Planning Board and Finance Committee.   Positions were taken on four articles, with one article — on the request to change the zoning for land within the Marketplace development  — remaining on hold until a Planning Board hearing on October 27.

At STM the Selectmen will join the Planning Board in recommending against a change in the zoning bylaw covering the conversion of public school buildings to multiple residence use (Article 2).  This article is a petitioner’s article related to the application to build additional units on the Page School property.  There are several concerns that need to be addressed, including the large size of the units as currently planned.  Identified as a last minute submission, the recommendation is that STM vote against the article in its current articulation.

Action was also taken to recommend approval for three additional articles.  Based on recommendations for approval by the Finance Committee, the Selectmen voted to recommend approval of Article 11 to amend the FY ’16 Operating Budgets and Article 12 to reduce the Ambulance Enterprise Budget, a reduction based on actual implementation costs.  In addition, the Selectmen voted to recommend that Lavender Lane be accepted as a Town road.
