Bedford Farms’ “destination” ice cream came to the Boston area’s newest dining and shopping destination, 3rd Avenue in Burlington, at noon on Sunday, September 24.
“We are very excited to bring the Bedford Farms Ice Cream family into the Burlington community and the 3rd Ave neighborhood,” according to Dave and Joe Venuti, owners of Bedford Farms. “We look forward to working with the schools, town programs and businesses in the area in becoming an ice cream mainstay for the families and corporate staff to enjoy our award-winning fresh-made ice cream!”
A new flavor, “3rd Avenue Crunch,” was developed for the Burlington shop. According to Dave Venuti, it’s a caramel ice cream with a chocolate swirl and toffee bits mixed in..
All three of the stores are open all winter, and offer a wide range of home-made style gourmet ice cream, in more than 60 flavors – including many that are created and churned in their production facility behind the Bedford shop. The Concord and Burlington shops offer subsets of the main flavor list, along with specialty flavors unique to each store.
Bedford Farms has been destination for great ice cream since the 1950’s. Founded as the J.B. Prescott Dairy in 1880, Bedford Farms is the town’s longest continuously running business. Joe Venuti purchased the company in 1984, and focused the company exclusively on ice cream. In 2008, a second shop was added on Thoreau Street in Concord, and now the third venue is open on Third Avenue in Burlington.
Bedford Farms is open 7 days a week in Bedford at 18 North Road; in Concord at 68 Thoreau Street, adjacent to the Concord Depot; and in Burlington at 19 Third Avenue, near Wegman’s.
