Considering the Future: Bedford Center for the Arts Open Meeting on Monday, November 9

BCA Logo (2)The board of directors of the Bedford Center for the Arts invites all interested Bedford residents and friends to a special BCA forum on Monday, November 9, at 7:30pm at the BCA space in Old Town Hall.

The forum will focus on the direction of the arts in Bedford in general, and of BCA in particular. BCA seeks input from the public about whether or not there is sufficient interest and support in town for the Bedford Center for the Arts to continue.

BCA was established as a nonprofit membership organization in 2000 by the late Jerry Christen, an organizational management expert, musician, and long-time resident of Bedford, with a mission of promoting community through the arts. After several years without a physical location, BCA moved into Old Town Hall in 2006, hosting meetings, workshops, exhibits, and studio space on the ground floor of the renovated building.

In its fifteen-year history, BCA has sponsored a variety of concerts, art exhibits, drama camps, workshops, classes, storytelling festivals, and opera lectures. The BCA Photography Group is a working community of amateur and professional photographers who share enthusiasm, skills, and creative vision through the photographic arts. The Third Friday Crafts workshops for young children have historically been popular destinations for the after-school hours for many families.

In the past several years, however, BCA has faced concurrent challenges. A drop in rental income has made the Old Town Hall space difficult to maintain, while registrations for regular programming have also decreased. The BCA finds itself at a crossroads, and is seeking community input on the place of the arts in Bedford, and how BCA could be part of the greater arts picture.

The forum will be held directly following the Kristallnacht service on the Town Common. Old Town Hall is located directly across the street from First Parish and the Common, at 16 South Road. All residents, friends, and patrons of the arts are encouraged to attend.

To ensure sufficient seating and refreshments, BCA asks that those who intend to come RSVP online at https://bedfordarts.wildapricot.org/Nov9-RSVP/.  If in-person attendance is not possible, residents are also welcome to contact any board member with thoughts or questions.
