Special to The Bedford Citizen

Lane School students, faculty and staff gathered to observe Veterans Day on November 10 along with with parents, grandparents and family friends who have served in the Armed Forces.

After the entire school assembled in the gymnasium, the invited Veterans marched in, led by the Bedford Police and Fire Department Honor Guard, and greeted by applause and a field of American flags, waving in welcome. There were speeches, hugs, and at least a few tears of joy.

Bedford Elementary Schools Together (BEST) moms Christine Bennett, Audrey Gould, Sandy Morvillo and Dawn Kociubes decorated the Lane School gymnasium for the ceremony, and set up a reception for the school’s honored guests in the cafeteria. Susan DiGangi kindly shared her photographs from the occasion.

After the celebration, BEST donated some of the balloon arrangements to the Bedford Council on Aging as a gift from the students at Lane School.  Coincidentally, the COA was holding a “Guess the Vet” contest so the balloons provided a festive touch to their display for Veterans Day.
