December 29, 2015

EversourceThanks to the persistent efforts of resident Eric Dahlberg and the assistance of Mary Catherine Guay, legislative aide to State Rep. Ken Gordon (D-Bedford), a full picture of Bedford’s 2015 Christmas night power outage has emerged.

According to a communication from Eversource obtained through Rep. Gordon’s office, “The original calls came in on this outage at 19:28 (7:28PM), from residents on Hartwell Road and Loomis Street.  They reported hearing a loud bang and loss of power. Additional reports were received and logged shortly thereafter and Eversource originally determined that the outage affected approximately 480 customers.”

According to the company, the failure of a major piece of equipment at the Bedford power substation caused the outage; that equipment has since been repaired.

As Christmas evening wore on, Eversource’s web site noted that 559 Bedford customers were without electricity.

The Eversource customer outage system informed callers that Eversource was aware of the outage, and provided estimated times for restoration of power. The original estimate of 9 pm was revised multiple times, leading to customer confusion and dissatisfaction as Christmas night turned into the early morning of December 26.

In thanking Rep. Gordon’s office for their help, Dahlberg wrote, “Wow thank you very much Mary.  I appreciate the follow-up.  I am impressed that Eversource took the time to respond to me – although more details on exactly what happened and what they’re doing to prevent it from happening again would have been even better.”
