After the Snowpocalypse of 2015, this winter has been a relative bust when it comes to the snowfall totals. But despite the dearth of fresh powder on the roads in town, Bedford High School’s Alpine Ski Team completed its 6-race season last week and sent Matt Carluccio and Nina Kuhn off to the Massachusetts State Championships at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Mass., on February 23.

At the boys’ State Championships Carluccio finished 65th in the Slalom and 62nd in the Giant Slalom out of 146 racers, and in the girls’ competition, Kuhn placed 102nd in the Slalom, and 94th in the Giant Slalom out of 150 racers who qualified.

Her teammates included sophomores Marci Hartai, Ashley Fallon, and Melissa Driscoll, as well as freshman Maddie Filosa. The girls’ highest team finish of the year came on February 11, when they came in fifth place in their eight-team league.

The boys’ highest team finish of the year also came on February 11, when they placed 3rd out of the eight teams competing. Joining Carluccio on the varsity roster were senior Michael Barkan and Josh Rubin, junior Ben Oleksinski, sophomore Nick Schwartz, and fellow freshman Kevin Murphy. The junior varsity team was comprised of seniors Andrew Latady, Finn O’Connell, and Sam Watson, junior Dave Timperio, sophomores John Salem, Tim Regan, Ian Miles, Matt D’Ambra, and Shane Meyer, and freshman Gabriel Alper.
