Through the combined efforts of the Bedford chapter of the American Red Cross, the student members of the BHS Red Cross Club, and the newly-aligned members of the CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars, donating blood in Bedford is an all new experience.

So what’s new?

Instead of hosting numerous, smaller and costly blood drives throughout the year at familiar venues such as Parish of St. Michael, Lutheran Church of the Savior, Bedford Children’s Center, The Flatbread Company, Whole Foods, Simon W. Robinson Masonic Lodge, Woburn Sportsman Association, The Bedford American Legion Post 221, all of Bedford’s blood drives have now been consolidated to two blood drives at Bedford High School.

The first was in January of this year and the next is TOMORROW, April 6

  • from 8AM- 1PM for students, and
  • from 1PM-7PM for the community.

The blood drive will take place in the Bedford High School cafeteria where there is ample parking and easy access for our donors. A host of student and community volunteers will be there to welcome and assist you.

Why the change?

There are two reasons:

  • It is simply too costly to host small blood drives that net small amounts of donations. Logistically, it is far more efficient to encourage our community donors to mark their calendars and join us twice a year for a larger and more productive collection.
  • A newly-established partnership with the high school and the CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars creates a win-win for the CSF and the Red Cross. The American Red Cross will donate up to $2500 in scholarship money to graduating Bedford High school students, awarded at the annual CSF Bedford Dollars for Scholars spring reception, based on number of pints collected. This generous offer of scholarship money from the Red Cross has been very motivating to many people as we see increasing blood donations in Bedford. It’s a wonderful feeling to “give back” by donating blood, but also a good feeling knowing you are contributing to our town’s amazing scholarship program.

Please try to find a way to attend tomorrow’s blood drive and become a donor. Your support is crucial to make this event a success, and we look forward to seeing you!
