Although there were plenty of warnings about the Prom Stroll’s impact on late afternoon traffic in Bedford, attendees at this afternoon’s event co-sponsored by the Cambridge Savings Bank and the Bedford Chamber of Commerce drew smiles and appreciation on the part of bystanders.

Additional traffic officers were on hand according to Maureen Sullivan, executive director of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce, who organized the first Prom Stroll in 1998 with about “fifty kids” according to Sullivan in a phone interview earlier today.

Instead of the dozens of limousines that were de rigeur in years past, three school-supplied coaches transported this year’s celebrants to the prom at the Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, and will return them to the school after the celebration ends.

Graduation will take place at the Tsongas Memorial Auditorium at 6:15 pm on Thursday, June 2.
