Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) and Congressman Seth Moulton opened their joint campaign office in Burlington on July 18, launching Representative Gordon’s reelection campaign for the 21st Middlesex District. The district includes Bedford, Burlington and part of Wilmington.

Bedford residents Richard Bowen, Ted Carlson and Joanne Glover, Ron Cordes, Tom Larkin, Lois & Brown Pulliam, Rick Rosen and -Mike Rosenberg joined more than 50 district residents gathered for the event.  State Senator Mike Barrett (D-Lexington) and Moulton staffer Lucas Santos spoke, along with Larry Cohen, the chair of Burlington’s Democratic Town Committee.

The speakers described a list of Rep. Gordon’s accomplishments for his district in his first two terms in office, including the forum he convened with Senator Ken Donnelly (D-Arlington) that resulted in the commitment of $800,000 in federal dollars to address the traffic bottleneck at the intersection of Route 93 and Route 3.

Sen. Barrett spoke about the inclusion of $142,000 for the Middlesex 3 Coalition to organize a shuttle service to take workers from Lowell to open employment positions in Burlington and Bedford.

Cohen, a former teacher, spoke about the instances where Rep. Gordon has included Burlington students in civic engagement, including his mentoring of a group of elementary school students who joined with Burlington’s Joyce Deliyiannis and her HELPIS network and filed a bill seeking to name May the Month of Kindness.

After bringing the children to the State House, Rep. Gordon delivered the Joint Committee on State Administration to Burlington, where they committee took testimony at the Francis Wyman School.   The children were invited back to Boston once Rep. Gordon shepherded the bill through the legislature to the Governor, where the bill was signed by Gov. Charles Baker with the students present.

“Ken Gordon has worked for the people of Burlington, Bedford, and Wilmington and will continue to work hard to fight for his district on Beacon Hill,” said Senator Barrett.  “It did not take Ken much of a learning curve for him to get involved and help the residents of his district right away.”

Santos described Rep. Gordon as a reliable advocate for his district. “I was assigned to Burlington even before Congressman Moulton took office.  We knew that if there were questions or issues that involved Burlington, Bedford or Wilmington we could call Ken and he would respond.  He is a reliable voice for this part of our district and we call on him often when we are in this area.”

For his part, Rep. Gordon described his efforts to improve the lives of the residents of his district.  “I am in this, as I always have been, for the residents of all the towns in my district,” said Gordon, standing beneath the flags of Bedford, Burlington and Wilmington that decorate one wall in the office. “We cannot always agree, but I hope that I have earned the reputation as a legislator who has been available to my constituents and has listened.  We do not always agree, just as my constituents do not always agree, but I have been out there listening to your concerns.”
