Would you leave your water faucet running for 25 years straight? Bedford’s oldest known gas leak located on Fletcher Rd was first reported on December 6, 1990 – more than 25 years ago.
Gas leaks are one of the environmental issues important to the Bedford chapter of Mothers out Front, a group of mothers, grandmothers, and other caregivers who are coming together to make climate change an issue that our leaders can no longer ignore.
On Bedford Day, you might have walked by the booth hosted by Mothers Out Front with its the large map with 43 holes punched along Bedford’s streets marking the 43 known open gas leaks in our town. You might have even adopted one of those leaks, pledging to call the gas utility company repeatedly to urge them to fix the leak.
In case you missed that opportunity you’ll be able to learn more about gas leaks from Professor Nathan Phillips who will be speaking at a public forum “Gas Leaks: Why Do They Matter?” hosted by Mothers Out Front and the Bedford Energy Task Force. The forum will take place on Mon, Oct 17 at 7:00 pm in Town Hall’s Multi-Purpose Room (please note this new location).
