Letter to the Editor: November 11, 2016: Town Meeting, One of the Purest Forms of Democracy

November 11, 2016

By Cathy Cordes

Letter-to-the-EditorAs Town Meeting Moderator, when I called town meeting  to order on Wednesday night Nov, 9, 2016  I used these words…   may they guide our civic involvement always.

“As I prepare to call this Special Town Meeting to order, I want to take a moment to thank all of you who are present tonight.  Town meeting in Bedford is one of the purest forms of democracy – but it does not happen without a quorum. I firmly believe in our democratic form of government.  We have real work to do together tonight.  You are the legislative branch of this town. What you – the voters of Bedford – decide tonight will make a difference in the lives of all who live in Bedford.

A quorum being present, I call this special Town Meeting to order.”
