Short Takes from the February 16 Finance Committee Meeting

February 24, 2017

By Lizzie Seibert

Topics worth noting at the February 16 Finance Committee Meeting:

  • Selectmen Margot Fleischman presented the Community Preservation Budget on behalf of the Community Preservation Committee. The budget includes open space, historic preservation, recreation, and affordable housing projects. She advocated substantially for a budget to preserve affordable housing in Bedford Village, which provides housing for Bedford’s local workforce and, she argued, is the most cost effective way of preserving diverse and affordable housing in Bedford. The Finance Committee voted the defer their recommendation of this budget to a later meeting.
  • The Finance Committee completed their voting recommendations for the warrant articles for town residents to vote on during Bedford’s upcoming Annual Town Meeting on March 27. The Finance Committee voted to recommend every article except Articles 4, 7, 8, 10-14, 16, 20, 21, 23, and 31, which they deferred to recommend at town meeting. The Finance Committee does not vote on Article 1.
