Bedford Skiers Compete in the MIAA Alpine Ski Championships

Maddie Filosa and Matthew Carluccio competed at the MIAA 2017 Alpine Ski Tournament at Wachusetts Moutain on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Filosa and Carluccio, both sophomores, qualified by finishing in the top 16 out of 40 varsity skiers in the Omega Conference during the regular season. Filosa finished 13^th in the girls’ division and Carluccio finished 4^thin the boys’ division.

The 300 top MA high school ski racers (150 boys and 150 girls) competed for the state championships at Wachusetts. Filosa received a 110^th starting placement based on her conference results. She finished in 76^th place, more than 30 spots above her starting spot, in the Slalom; at 80th, she finished 30 spots above her starting spot in the Giant Slalom. Carluccio started out in the 31^st spot on the boy’s side, and finished 22^nd in the Slalom and 35^th in Giant Slalom.

A strong contingent of Bedford Ski Team members and Coach Derek Johnson came to Wachusetts to support Maddie and Matthew. It was a great day all around and a great end to the Bedford ski team season.
