Election ~ 2017: Letter to the Editor, Robin Grace Silbert for Library Trustee

By Sheila Albrecht

I am writing in support of Robin Grace’s candidacy for Bedford library trustee on March 11. If you even remotely know Robin, it is difficult not to imagine her without a pile of books in her arms coming in or out of the Bedford Public Library, or with the books throughout her home, or seeing her in the car listening to a book on tape, or having her say to you, “Here give this book a read. I loved it, and I think you will love it too.”

Robin is well known as a Bedford doer with an engaging smile, infectious enthusiasm, and a can do attitude. Many Bedford organizations have benefited by her involvement. She started volunteering early while her two sons attended preschool at St. Paul’s Weekly Nursery School and continued throughout their years at Davis, Lane, JGMS and BHS. She easily accepted leadership responsibilities on many committees and it was difficult to say no when she asked you to join the effort whether it was for a teacher’s luncheon, dishing out hamburgers and hot dogs in the POMS shack during football games, decorating the school or gymnasium for a special school event or encouraging you to support the Friends of the Bedford Library with donations or purchases.

Serving as a board member for the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation, Carlton Willard and the Friends of the Bedford Library are an extension of her various volunteer interests.  She brings equal enthusiasm, support, and caring to all these Bedford institutions.

Robin is an ideal candidate to serve as a library trustee. She has had a deep respect and affection for the library that began when she was a child in Boston anxiously awaiting the weekly arrival of the bookmobile to her neighborhood. She then made the Boston Public Library her second home until she left for college. She fed her appetite for reading and books with an undergraduate degree in literature and a master’s degree in journalism.  Her work experience includes teaching elementary school, writing for a local suburban newspaper, and she has literally traveled the world as a profession tour leader helping her passengers understand the social, political, geographical, and historical aspects of the destination.

As a library trustee candidate, she offers a unique level of diversity, life experience, energy, and most of all a desire to see the Bedford Public Library become as meaningful to you as it has been and continues to be in her life.  I encourage you to join me in supporting her candidacy.
