Election ~ 2017: Letter to the Editor, Robin Grace Silbert for Library Trustee

By Dianne Bridgeman

Please Vote for Robin Grace for Bedford Library Trustee on March 11th.  Robin would combine her creativity, drive, and enthusiasm with her ability to organize people to support worthy causes.  I know she would work tirelessly to support and improve this important institution.  And, I know she would encourage more and more residents of Bedford to use the library, Fromand to join in supporting it.

Robin has a seemingly endless reserve of energy to devote to community causes.  I have known her for over 22 years, guiding our sons through preschool, Cub Scouts, marching band, book clubs, a myriad of social gatherings, and just plain fun outings.  In school, Robin has organized teacher luncheons, held fundraisers to help send the Marching Band to Walt Disney World, helped organize the Washington DC trip for the 8th graders, chaperoned Band Camp, and on and on.  She has helped lead many community groups, serving as chair of Celebrating Differences, METCO, and Hospitality, as well as serving on the boards of the Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation, POMS, BEF, Carlton Willard, and of course, the Friends of the Bedford Public Library.  As anyone who has worked with Robin can tell you she always keeps it fun and productive. And somehow, she always has the energy to add one more worthy group to her list.

Robin has an outgoing personality and a creative flair that she brings to everything she touches.  For example, when Robin was in charge of the 8th grade trip to Washington,  she made sure the chaperones and bus drivers had “Care Packages” filled with toothbrushes, snacks, and reading materials.  Last Bedford Day, Robin took to the streets, walking around with a body billboard, exhorting us all to join the Friends of the Library.  (It worked – I renewed on the spot!)  Most recently, Robin had served on the Bedford Strategic Planning focus group, seeking to understand how to make the library resources more relevant to, and more widely known within the community.  She has been listening to people in town, exploring how to increase library access to small and large groups, and how to keep up with rapidly changing technological advances.

Robin holds an undergraduate degree in literature from Augusta College in Georgia and a Masters in Journalism from Boston University.  She has worked as a newspaper reporter and a full-time travel tour manager.  She loves to read books of every genre.

I genuinely believe that Robin would help the Library grow and flourish as one of its trustees.  I am excited to vote for her in this next election, and I hope you will too!  Please vote for Robin Grace on March 11 for Library Trustee.
