Election ~ 2017: Letter to the Editor, Sarita Pillai for Library Trustee

By Anitha Reddy Yajnik

I am writing in support of Sarita Pillai who is running to serve as Library Trustee in town elections on March 11.  I have known Sarita for four years since she moved to Bedford with her family. We met while touring a pre-school, have remained friends every since and have many common family friends. We also have children of similar ages and often have the chance to engage with each other as parents during school and other town activities. I know Sarita and her husband to be dedicated parents with a particular fondness for the musical education of their children, to which they devote consider time and effort.

I chair the planning committee that hosts the largest Indian cultural event hosted in Bedford along with many other family events, all of which are open to all and attended by many families of various backgrounds who live in Bedford. Our largest event occurs in the fall, which is a very busy time for families of school-aged children. Nonetheless, for the past four years, Sarita has consistently volunteered her time to organize aspects of the event, invite new attendees and help staff and manage the event itself. Sarita has proven time and again that when she takes on a job, she sees it through to completion.

Sarita’s educational background and professional qualifications speak for themselves. Sarita has a proven and strong track record working in the field of education and understands the central role libraries play in serving a community’s social and educational needs.  I too agree, as other letters have stated, that the diversity of perspective and background a candidate like Sarita brings will benefit our town boards and committees and represent the interests of a growing diversity of Bedford residents.

I know Sarita has been called to action in response to today’s troubled political climate. I applaud her decision to take action and make a meaningful contribution to our town on behalf of all of us. Every vote counts and we are privileged to have the power of participating in town elections.

Please come to polls on March 11 and join me in voting for Sarita Pillai for Library Trustee.
