Competing in the Ocean State Grand Nationals: Rob Ackerman

Rob Ackerman, a student at Endicott College and an instructor at Callahan’s Karate Studio in Bedford, recently took part in the Ocean State Grand Nationals, a nationally rated karate tournament in Warwick, RI. He competed in two divisions, each with athletes from around the United States, many of whom hold World Championship titles.

In the Men’s 18+ Black Belt Extreme Weapons division Ackerman earned second place. “As my best placement a national tournament since I began competing at a national level in 2014,” he said, “I am certainly proud of how far I have come.”

Ackerman dropped his swords during a release in his first year of competition, so the second-place finish represents a significant accomplishment.
