With temperatures in the mid 40’s, Bedford Varsity Girls Tennis dropped a 4-1 decision to powerhouse CCHS.

Bedford Freshman Aneesha Manne made her Varsity debut, taking on CC’s Sophomore Celene Machen at first singles losing 2-0.
Bedford Junior Captain Mari Fay played CC’s Senior Gaia Daelli at 2nd singles. Mari put up a good fight picking on Gaia’s backhand and forcing her to hit extra balls. Mari lost 2-6, 2-6.
Bedford featured Freshman Amelia Leida against CC’s Junior Caroline Zeng at 3rd singles. Amelia had a tough first set but was able to settle into a groove in the second set before falling 1-6, 3-6.
Bedford’s Junior Captain Sarah Pequeno and Senior Izzie Henderson played first doubles against CC’s Freshman Skye Bell and Sophomore Mehak Kang. They played a tough match and worked on redirecting their opponents’ power but fell 0-6, 0-6.
Highlight of the day was the epic battle of Bedford’s Senior Captain Hannah Kilroy and Senior Nghi Nguyen playing Sophomores Caitlin McCarthy and Lillian Keefe. They played a great first set, using angles and smart net play. They had a hiccup in the second set but were able to re-focus to win in a third-set tiebreaker. 6-2, 1-6, 7-1.
Coach Alyssa LaPane said, “Overall, this was a tough but good first match for us. CC always is a tough team to compete against and I’m proud of the way the young ladies handled themselves both in terms of play and sportsmanship.”
Bedford’s next match was scheduled for Friday, April 7 at Acton-Boxborough.
