Bedford TV recently earned national recognition as the Best Public, Education, and Government Access Channel in its budget category. Bedford’s Home Town Media award was presented by the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) on July 13 during the organization’s conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Executive Director Greg Dolan accepted the award on behalf of Bedford TV’s volunteers, board, and staff. He expressed his excitement and gratitude by saying, “It was thrilling to be able to accept this award on behalf of the volunteers who make this station so great.  Our station stands out because of the efforts of everyone who volunteers their time to be involved.  We’re lucky to have a committed and talented group of volunteers. and we couldn’t have done it without them!”

Bob Dutton, a member of Bedford TV’s Board of Directors, said, “Congratulations to Executive Director Greg Dolan along with the Bedford TV Staff and the amazing body of dedicated volunteers who make Bedford TV so special.  This award rightfully recognizes their skills and dedication in bringing such a wide range of high-quality programming to our community.  Great job, all!”

Film maker and Bedford TV volunteer: Ann Seamans added, “The station is a supportive environment for learning new things. I began by borrowing equipment for a documentary project several years ago, and now I volunteer as a crew member several times each month. I love the diversity and creativity of the staff and the other volunteers.”

About Bedford’s Home Town Media Award

The category Bedford TV entered was open to stations with budgets up to $300,000.  This is the smallest budget category the ACM has for their awards, and Bedford TV was able to win despite competing against stations with up to 50% more budget dollars per year.

The award was judged by a panel of representatives from other PEG Access stations who reviewed Bedford’s 20-minute programming compilation tape (click here to watch it), as well as evaluating a questionnaire on Bedford TV’s operations including questions on staffing, responsiveness to community needs, and partnerships with local organizations.
