Submitted by Terry Gleason for the Bedford Friends of the Minuteman Bikeway

More than 300 users of all types responded to the recent Minuteman Bikeway survey on how the towns (Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford) should prioritize bikeway changes to make your use safer and more comfortable.

The full results will be summarized and shared with town advisory committees and boards and in our next newsletter. The Bedford Friends of the Bikeway believe the actual users (all types and ages) need to be consulted foremost when the towns decide how to allocate their limited bicycle and pedestrian resources.

A brief summary of the survey results:

  • Maintaining a clean, dry, smooth surface is important for all users
  • Bike safety education in the schools, despite not being directly related to the bikeway, received the most votes as ‘high” priority
  • New half-mile marker signs were ranked the least important of all the suggested changes
