On September 12 the Planning Board heard a request for an Industrial Mixed Use Special Permit for the construction of a 5-story hotel at 39 Crosby Drive.with a separate coffee shop restaurant. The hotel would be located where Crosby Drive curves sharply toward Middlesex Turnpike. The plans include part of a property at 45 Crosby Drive now owned by Fuji Recording Media.
The proposed hotel would provide 130 guest rooms and a separate building for a cafe. The hotel will not provide dining services but will include one meeting room. The cafe is expected to be under separate management. Initial plans show a drive-through window, but one is not allowed in the current zoning at this time.
Planning Board members asked that a sidewalk be continued to allow safe pedestrian access from nearby businesses and the bus stop across the street. When asked, the owner agreed to participate in the shuttle bus service coordinated by the Middlesex 3 Coalition. The owners have also agreed to allow pedestrian access to neighboring properties, but not vehicular access.
The Planning Board voted to continue the hearing to a future meeting.
