Bedford-based iRobot Corporation prides itself on supporting the community through a variety of ways. iRobot’s STEM program partners with educators in Massachusetts, including Bedford, to bring robots into classrooms to educate children on the emerging robotics industry. During the holidays, iRobot looks for additional opportunities to offer its support to the Bedford community.

In 2017, iRobot employees partnered with the Bedford Police Department and the “Angel of Hope” project for the third consecutive year, to fulfill the wish lists of families within the Domestic Violence Services Network (DVSN). DVSN works in collaboration with communities to end domestic violence. They strive to empower and educate all people in ways that respect their dignity and choices while promoting their safety. iRobot’s EVP of Human Resources and Corporate Communications, Russ Campanello, said, “We are proud to support this amazing organization that serves the Greater Bedford community. The DVSN does tremendous work helping support those in need, especially during the holidays.” In addition to the Angel of Hope project, the employees enjoy shopping for gifts for their annual Toys for Tots drive.

As a fun, impromptu company outing, iRobot purchased tickets for employees around the globe to see the new movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi together.  Colin Angle, the CEO of iRobot, was inspired by Star Wars as a boy and often credits the series as his original inspiration to dedicating his life to making practical robots a reality. Recognizing the importance Star Wars had on his life, Colin insisted that tickets also be donated to children in the community who may not be able to afford a box office seat.  iRobot reached out to the Billerica and Stoneham Boys and Girls Clubs and invited them to join in the fun. With Colin and iRobot fans donning their Jedi robes, over 430 children and iRobot employees attended The Last Jedi the first week of its debut. The energy and excitement in the theater were awesome from everyone who attended!

Giving back is part of being an iRobot employee as Angle said, “Give back to the world for all the great things the world has done for us.” And all employees embrace this mission, bringing it to life every day.
